Course Overview
In this course, "DB 101: How to Trip Sit", participants will learn about the role and responsibilities of a trip sitter, how to prepare for and navigate a psychedelic experience, and best practices for setting up a safe and supportive environment for the person tripping.
The course will also cover how to properly vet a trip sitter, whether it be a friend or family member or a professional, and how to handle challenging or "bad trip" scenarios. Additionally, it will provide a framework for those interested in potentially holding space professionally, and will explore what trip sitting entails and what requires more in-depth training.
Deciding to hold space for someone while they’re on a psychedelic or deciding that someone is going to hold space for you while you are on a psychedelic is a big decision. Trip sitting can be incredibly rewarding. You can help support people through finding deep healing and clarity—or simply support them through a very challenging moment. However, it's important to understand that trip sitting is not just a simple task. It requires knowledge, empathy, preparation and the right mindset.
Currently, we’re in a strange time in the psychedelic movement. More and more people are becoming curious about using psychedelics to heal, but, because they’re still federally illegal, it can be tough to find someone trustworthy to trip sit. In this course, DoubleBlind provides people who want to trip sit and people looking for trip sitters with a framework for success.
For trip sitters, this includes how to help a person prepare for, navigate, and process their psychedelic experience. They cover what questions to ask someone before the trip to ensure they’re ready. The course also covers how to set up a space for tripping and how to best support a person through a “bad trip” or challenging experience. Finally, the course also gives you the knowledge you need to understand the different stages of a psychedelic experience, how to recognize the signs of a difficult experience and how to support the person in a way that is empathetic, non-judgmental and respectful.
For people seeking a trip sitter, this course provides you with what you need to vet a person who might hold space for you properly. The lecturers talk about what questions to ask the person ahead of time if they’re a family member or friend, as well as red flags if you’re speaking to someone who claims to be a professional trip sitter.
