Modern Recovery: Veterans & Psychedelic-assisted Therapy

This course, Modern Recovery: Veterans & Psychedelic-assisted Therapy, is designed to provide an in-depth understanding of how psychedelic therapy can positively impact veteran health. In collaboration with Psychedelic.Support, the course covers the most recent scientific research on treatments using psychedelics such as ibogaine, psilocybin, ayahuasca, MDMA, ketamine, and 5-MeO-DMT for conditions commonly affecting veterans, such as traumatic brain injury (TBI), post-traumatic stress/post-traumatic stress disorder (PTS/PTSD), and drug and alcohol addiction. The course will also delve into how psychedelics may work in the brain to heal neural circuits and improve cognitive functioning, and how to integrate psychedelic experiences and support family members before, during, and after psychedelic experiences.

This self-paced, interactive course is designed for veterans and their families who want to understand current scientific research on psychedelics and how it applies to veterans, as well as for anyone else interested in learning about psychedelics and veteran mental health. The course does not require previous knowledge and includes videos, animations, and detailed graphics to help explain complex topics. The curriculum covers lessons on psychedelics 101, veteran health and psychedelic research, how psychedelics work, the ins and outs of psychedelic substances, taking a psychedelic journey, and psychedelic integration and aftercare.

After completing the course, participants will be able to understand the history and terminology associated with psychedelics, describe veteran health conditions and psychedelic therapy research findings, explain the effects and safety criteria of common psychedelic substances, describe what to expect from psychedelic experiences, how to prepare and integrate, and become familiar with different types of practices to promote therapeutic benefit, discuss ways to talk to your family, friends, and peer support network about psychedelics, and summarize the mission and purpose of VETS.
