PTGI
Post-Traumatic Growth Inventory
About This Instrument
The Post-Traumatic Growth Inventory (PTGI) is a 21-item self-report measure developed by Richard Tedeschi and Lawrence Calhoun to assess positive psychological changes experienced as a result of struggling with highly challenging life circumstances. Each item is rated on a 0–5 scale (0 = did not experience, 5 = experienced to a very great degree), yielding total scores from 0 to 105. The PTGI measures five domains of growth: relating to others, new possibilities, personal strength, spiritual change, and appreciation of life. In psychedelic-assisted therapy research, the PTGI is used to capture whether treatment facilitates meaningful positive changes beyond mere symptom reduction, aligning with the transformative experiences often reported by participants. Higher scores indicate greater perceived post-traumatic growth.
