Psychedelic treatment for co-occurring alcohol misuse and post-traumatic stress symptoms among United States Special Operations Forces Veterans

In a retrospective survey of 27 US Special Operations Forces veterans who completed a psychedelic treatment programme in Mexico, self‑reported alcohol misuse and post‑traumatic stress symptoms showed marked reductions with very large effect sizes (d≈–2.4 to –2.8) and 85% reduced drinking to non‑risky levels, while psychological flexibility increased. The uncontrolled, retrospective design limits causal inference, and the authors call for rigorous longitudinal trials to determine whether psychedelic‑assisted therapy is effective in this population.

Ibogaine Blocks Cue- and Drug-Induced Reinstatement of Conditioned Place Preference to Ethanol in Male Mice

In male mice, repeated oral ibogaine (10 or 30 mg/kg) did not produce conditioned place preference but blocked both cue‑ and drug‑induced reinstatement of ethanol‑conditioned place preference in priming‑injection and context‑re‑exposure tests. This indicates ibogaine at non‑rewarding doses may reduce relapse‑like alcohol seeking and warrants consideration as a potential treatment for alcohol use disorder.

Treating drug dependence with the aid of ibogaine: a qualitative study

This open-label qualitative study (n=22) investigated the therapeutic efficacy of ibogaine (840/1050mg) in combination with cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) and relapse prevention to treat drug-dependent patients. Patients reported decreases in craving and improvements in personal relationships, quality of life, and self-efficacy.
