LSD for Personality & Trait Factors

23 papers and 0 clinical trials exploring lsd as a treatment for personality & trait factors.

Compoundclassic psychedelic

LSD

LSD is a classic psychedelic ergoline with high potency at microgram doses and an 8-12 hour duration of action, mediated primarily via 5-HT2A receptor agonism. Modern Phase IIb data in generalised anxiety disorder and FDA Breakthrough Therapy Designation for MM120 have reignited clinical development.

IndicationApproximately 10 million adults in the UK suffer from a personality disorder.

Personality & Trait Factors

Psychedelic research is increasingly examining the interplay between personality traits and therapeutic outcomes in various mental health conditions. Recent studies highlight how certain personality traits may influence the efficacy of psychedelic treatments, particularly in managing disorders like depression and anxiety.

Participant Experiences of Microdosed Lysergic Acid Diethylamide in a 6-Week Randomised Controlled Trial

In the first qualitative study embedded in a randomised, placebo‑controlled trial, interviews with 40 healthy males who microdosed 10 µg LSD every third day for six weeks identified effects across mood, social life, mindfulness, cognition/creativity and physiology, with overarching themes of increased openness and bidirectional (positive and negative) effects. These findings highlight clinically relevant signals (notably changes in anxiety) that bear on patient and dose selection for mood‑disorder trials and emphasise set, setting and placebo‑related uncertainty as key considerations for psychedelic trial design.

Pharmacological and non-pharmacological predictors of the LSD experience in healthy participants

This pooled analysis of nine double-blind, placebo-controlled, cross-over studies (n=213) investigates predictors of LSD effects in healthy subjects. It finds that LSD dose is the most influential predictor, with pre-drug mental states, personality traits, and previous hallucinogen experiences also significantly affecting the subjective experience.

LSD-assisted therapy in patients with anxiety: open-label prospective 12-month follow-up

In a planned 12‑month open‑label follow‑up of a double‑blind, placebo‑controlled crossover trial, LSD‑assisted therapy produced sustained, clinically significant reductions in anxiety and depression with large effect sizes lasting up to nearly two years after treatment. Participants also showed decreased neuroticism, increased extraversion and reported positive long‑term effects attributed to the psychedelic experience.

Attitudes of psychedelic users regarding cost of treatment and non-hallucinogenic alternatives

In a survey of 1,221 naturalistic psychedelic users, 76% judged altered states of consciousness to be very or extremely important for therapeutic effects, yet 61% said they would be willing to try a non-hallucinogenic analogue. Respondents considered about $70–80 per hour a reasonable fee for preparation, dosing and integration—substantially below current market projections for psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy.

Acute effects of MDMA and LSD co-administration in a double-blind placebo-controlled study in healthy participants

In a double‑blind, placebo‑controlled crossover study in 24 healthy adults, co‑administration of MDMA (100 mg) with LSD (100 µg) did not change the quality of LSD’s acute subjective effects but prolonged them and increased LSD plasma concentrations and elimination half‑life. The combination produced greater cardiovascular and pupil effects and higher oxytocin than LSD alone and therefore offered no advantage in efficacy or safety for psychedelic‑assisted therapy.

Sustained effects of single doses of classical psychedelics in humans

This review (2022) explores the acute effects of classic psychedelics in clinical research with humans and summarizes behavioural, biochemical, neuroimaging and electrophysiological data in order to support the notion that the intriguing effects of psychedelics on the human brain and mind are based on neural plasticity.
