Geneva Psychedelic Research Group

Data updated

University of Geneva / HUG, Switzerland

The Geneva Psychedelic Research Group brings together the University of Geneva and the Geneva University Hospitals (HUG), and is notable for treating patients rather than only studying them. Since September 2020, its psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy programme, run through the addiction division of the department of psychiatry under Daniele Zullino, has treated more than 250 people with treatment-resistant depressive or anxiety disorders. Treatment uses LSD or psilocybin under individual compassionate-use authorisations granted by the Swiss federal health office, a legal route available in Switzerland since 2014. Sessions take place in a quiet outpatient setting with continuous nursing support, and the group's research draws on this real-world cohort to study safety, tolerability and how best to structure the therapeutic setting.
