Data updated
The Swiss Medical Society for Psycholytic Therapy (Schweizerische Ärztegesellschaft für Psycholytische Therapie), which presents itself as SÄPT, is a Switzerland-based interdisciplinary medical society founded in 1985 on the initiative of the psychiatrist Peter Baumann. It brings together mainly German-speaking physicians and therapeutic professionals across psychiatry, psychotherapy, neurology, palliative care, general medicine and psychology, and works to advance medically supervised psychedelic-assisted therapy through professional exchange, training, research support, quality standards and ethical guidance.
SÄPT is a field-building organisation for psychedelic-assisted therapy in Switzerland. Its members have supported studies of MDMA-assisted and LSD-assisted psychotherapy, and it maintains treatment recommendations and an institutional PAT working group (IG PAT), alongside patient-facing information on where psychedelic-assisted therapy may be available and on support for difficult experiences. Historically, five SÄPT therapists received Swiss federal exception permits between 1988 and 1993 to conduct MDMA- and LSD-assisted therapy in private practice, treating around 170 patients. Today it operates chiefly as a professional society advancing psycholytic and psychedelic therapy within Switzerland's restricted medical-use framework.
