Doctor of East-West Psychology

Course Overview
The Doctor of East-West Psychology at California Institute of Integral Studies examines the convergence of Eastern, Western, and Indigenous psychologies and spiritualities through dialogue and integral inquiry. Students engage in research on topics related to multicultural understanding, peaceful social change, and multiple ways of knowing. The program is designed for students interested in building bridges across disciplines, research methods, and epistemologies. It includes original dissertation research and may cover areas such as mindfulness, somatic spirituality, eco-psychology, Indigenous and earth-based wisdom, community-building, restorative justice, integral yoga, and non-ordinary states of consciousness. The curriculum consists of 40 units of online or in-person coursework and includes an introductory course with a retreat component, two comprehensive exams, proposal writing, and dissertation research. Students work with advisors to design an individualized curriculum. Graduates may pursue careers in education, research, writing, advocacy, community organizing, environmental leadership, consulting, counseling, and nonprofit work.

The California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) launched the world's first university-affiliated Psychedelic-Assisted Therapies and Research Certificate Program in 2015, establishing the gold standard for post-graduate psychedelic clinician training, with cohorts now also offered a B.S. in Psychedelic Studies and a KAP clinic.
