Master of Fine Arts in Interdisciplinary Arts and Writing

The Master of Fine Arts in Interdisciplinary Arts and Writing at CIIS is a two-year, 39-unit program delivered primarily online. Courses include required virtual meetings at the start of each fall and spring semester, along with two six-day intensives in San Francisco, California. The program emphasizes dialogue, mentorship, and interdisciplinary exploration rather than a traditional studio-based model. Students work through classes, workshops, events, individualized faculty advising, and up to four mentorships with art professionals. The curriculum includes a four-course storytelling focus called Story Matters, plus a residential Interdisciplinary Arts Seminar that can be taken once or multiple times. It is intended for students developing artistic practice and professional direction across media, writing, arts administration, education, advocacy, and related fields.
