The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of MDMA on encoding and retrieval of emotional and social memories in healthy young adults.
Between-subjects, randomized, triple-blind, placebo-controlled parallel design (N=84) with three groups: MDMA at encoding, MDMA at retrieval, and placebo at both sessions.
Participants attend two sessions 48 hours apart; MDMA (1 mg/kg, oral) is administered either before encoding or before retrieval, and memory tested via surprise verbal recall and picture recognition alongside mood questionnaires.
MDMA administered before encoding; placebo at retrieval two days later.
MDMA given before encoding session (single administration).
Placebo capsule (given at retrieval).
Placebo before encoding; MDMA administered before retrieval two days later.
MDMA given before retrieval session (single administration).
Placebo capsule (given at encoding).
Placebo capsules at both encoding and retrieval sessions.
Placebo at both sessions.
