Certification & Credentialing Programs
Professional licensing courses and certification programmes required for legal psychedelic therapy practice.
Dozens of programmes now certify psychedelic practitioners, and almost none of those certificates carry legal force. This page tracks the certifying layer: who badges whom, for what.
The exceptions with real legal weight are programmes approved under state systems (Oregon and Colorado publish approved-provider lists). Everywhere else, a certificate’s value is reputational, resting on the programme’s rigour and recognition.

Frequently asked questions
- Do any of these certificates carry legal authority?
Only those tied to a state licensing system: Oregon and Colorado name approved training providers whose graduates can sit facilitator licensing. Outside those programmes, no certificate confers permission to give anyone a psychedelic.
- Which certifications do employers recognise?
The established multi-year programmes with supervised practice components carry the most weight with clinics and trial sponsors. Our competencies pages map programme content against clinical competency frameworks, which is a sturdier comparison than brand recognition.
- How do certification bodies relate to training providers?
Many organisations are both: they teach and certify their own graduates, which is worth noticing when weighing what a certificate independently attests. Separate credentialing bodies that assess graduates of any programme remain rare in this field.
